Installing Knoppix

Well, I decided to give a Knoppix live-CD a try after having a terrible time trying to get Gentoo to work (and never succeeding). So I put the CD in, and found it actually understands my soundcard propperly--something, Windows 95, FreeBSD, and RHL7 never did figure out quite right. So, now I want to have it running. So I do the copy to harddrive script, reboot, and find that I have having more than a few errors with the knoppix hd installation. The major one being, I cannot login. The problem is, I told it to use kdm to handle logins. The only problem is, while I can login, I get halfway through KDE starting up, and I am forced to login again. Pretty much putting me through an infinite login loop. Does anybody know what I would do to fix this? DakeDesu, protecter of newbie posters. Don''t use Knoppix.

If you want all the Knoppix neatness, install Debian (since Knoppix is basically a special Debian distro). You''ll be much happier with Debian. Much happier.

Although I''m fond of Gentoo, but that''s unimportant.

Yes, just go with Debian. Check out the new installer. Etc.

I also like Gentoo, but getting it setup is a pain in the ass (what with all the compiling and all), and you only really ever want to have to do it one time.

If you still want to use knoppix: don''t do a knx-hdinstall with 3.3 - in my experience it is quite broken... try 3.1 instead.
