The AI Lectures from Tokyo: An Experiment in Global Teaching ------------------------------------------------------------ On December 16, Rodney Brooks from MIT Boston will join Rolf Pfeifer and Yasuo Kuniyoshi in Tokyo for a live discussion via video conference on tokyolectures.org. You may participate in this interesting discussion through the chat on our website. PROJECT DESCRIPTION Under the patronage of the universities of Beijing, Munich, Tokyo, Warsaw, and Zurich, the winter term 2003/2004 offers an exciting new lecture series: "The AI Lectures from Tokyo". Starting on Tuesday, November 4 at 9:15 CET, students from five different countries will be able to participate in a global teaching experiment spanning 8 time zones. The lecture series on modern Artificial Intelligence, held by Prof. Rolf Pfeifer (currently at the University of Tokyo), will be broadcast to lecture halls around the world using state-of-the-art videoconferencing technology. The goals of this ambitious project are, on the one hand, to create an interactive learning environment, so that the attending students feel comfortable to actively participate on a global scale; on the other hand, the project aims at bringing together hundreds of students and researchers, establishing a global community in the field of modern Artificial Intelligence. For this purpose, the lectures will not only be broadcast to the five participating universities, but also made available on the internet, live and free of charge, for everyone interested in the "AI Lectures from Tokyo" (broadband internet access required).
