So which one is easier to learn/use?

I used Blender (along with the book and I recommend you don’t buy it) for about two months and have played with it somewhat. It has a lot of functionality but only exports to its own 3D engine with “.blend” files (so if you want to make your own engine and use Blender then your out of luck or you can get a converter). It is pretty confusing at first and takes a while to become comfortable with the interface and therefore it has a steep learning curve. I have given up on it because I feel it hinders me for I can’t just export my models to 3Ds and COB (which my engine supports), so I stopped using it.

As far as Wings3D I haven’t used it but “cowsarenotevil” seems to like it (so hopefully his majesty will post a reply).

don''t give up on blender, it''s a great program considering it''s price (even i can afford $0!)
as for the file formats, you can find export scripts for just about any file format you need. and if you can''t, you should be able to find an exporter to a more common format from which you can probably convert to another with some other convertor. sure that sounds like a lot of work but what do you expect? that''s life for ya.

yes, blender is very difficult at first. my advice is to keep reading the tutorials because once you get used to it, using blender is pretty simple.
Blender has a renderer, and is generally more complete than Wings. Wings, however, has a much easier to learn and use interface, and is excelent for modelling, but not anything beyond that. You can make high-quality models very quickly with it. Blender is probably better for indoor scenes than Wings, so expeirience in both is useful. Another excellent freeware modeler is anim8or.

Well, I don''t really know why I posted this thread, since I already knew Blender was SUPER DUPER HARD!!~~! One day (A few months back) I downloaded Blender, played with it for an hour or so, and finally made my first render of the earth! YESH, a whole hour!

Yea, I guess Blender is more complete, but for now, I''ll stick with Wings3d.

Wings is better from a game content stand point, if you you use other tools to do your animation, bones etc. If you just want a modeler and that''s it, then Wings is a better choice.

If you need to do cut scenes for your game, if you need animation support, if you need to do a fast prototype (game engine), if you prefer to model with splines or nurbs, then Blender is you choice.

A middle ground would be use both, Wings for models then export to obj then import into Blender for further use.

Blender is a lot more complicated than wings simply because Wings is only a polygonal modeler. Blender has many more tools.
