Hey Guys, I am currently a Technical Analyst and would love to move into the games industy. I have tried the agency''s but had no luck. I figure QA would be a good place to start. Anyone know the average wage for a QA techie? Or is there other ways into the industy like IT support roles or web development(I currenly develop intranets). I am currently working on j2me games so maybe this might be useful. Any advice would be greatfully recieved

It could be, depending on where you want to end up. What job do you envisage moving to from QA?

Games design would be the holly grail but I am happy doing most things. I would''nt mind getting into developing mobile games at a code level or even network programming.

Saying that my C++ skills are not brillant nd my Java is a bit better it''s just a matter for me of using them more.

Then read some books on developing mobile games and make your own! It''s not hard to do. You might want to ask around the appropriate forum for someone to help out with graphics and/or audio, but almost every mobile phone today runs Java in some form or another. (Usually MIDP.)

C++ is good if you want to build games that are more hardware-intensive, but you can get, say, the relevant SDKs for free from the usual websites. (To develop for the Nokia Series 60-based phones, you just go to ''forum.nokia.com'' and follow the links. Registration for these things is usually free.)

This is also an excellent way to get into the industry: build a game of your own. Make it good, make it polished and make it fun. Do that and you''ll find the doors open far more readily.
