map file format
is there any open file format for maps with a map designer app as it''s for models? or I have to write my own format and implementation?
I would implement my own.
Customizing as needed.
storing any way you can possible choose.

on the other hand I have to write a map editor.
I learned how to use MS3D and MD2 models so there is no need to create my own model format and editor, I hope there is something similar for maps.
and creating models/maps from vertex coords is horribly hard and never gives good results.

Ummm, you didn't make a level editor? nor a model editor?
if so, you quake 3 .bsp.
i believe that would be great for starters. bsp and pvs.
at www.GameTutorials.com.
that way, you can load someelse's maps, to test your engine.
then designed your own mini maps to test. etc...

John Carmack said I can use the formats but not their models and maps, legally.
