Hi, i''m creating a 3d space game and i want to render some nebula in the space. Can someone address to a tutorial to make a nice texture? Or make me a simple one? I dont need complex things and i''d prefer to not have a real photo of a nebula Some gas layers also with a only single color, i dont pretend too much and in your opinion is better to apply the texture on a cube, on a sphere or there''s a way better? Thanks for any tips, i''m more a programmer than an artist
Here we go!
If you just want a backdrop, use a sky box. Typically, people render these with max/maya/whatever. A free alternative to expensive rendering packages is POV-ray (www.povray.org) which is like a programming language for ray tracing.

In any case it''ll probably take an artist to make a good sky box.. It may be easier to just look for one on the net. I seem to remember a web site called "wadfather" (google for it) that had a very large selection of skies and other textures that would be OK for personal/free use. I''m sure there are some outer space type things there.
