This is a problem that''s happening with a friend of mine, and i have no idea of how to fix it. Here''s the thing: After using her Debian desktop for some minutes (let''s say 30min), her desktop won''t open x applications anymore. If she tries to open xterm, for example, it does nothing. She tried running from command line (to get some error msg), and this is the error msg from xterm: error can''t open display 0.0 When trying to open some GTK application (GEdit), she''s get''s a similar msg saying GTK can''t open display. Oh, if she logs off Gnome, and then log in, everything is fine again! Really weird. So she has to logoff/login from times to times, which sucks. Any help is appreciated, Thanks Victor.

That''s really weird. I wonder if maybe there''s some process that''s not dying off when the main application is quit, and for whatever reason over time that clogs the system to the point where the display can''t be open?

Just a thought since I have no real idea what could cause this since I''ve never heard of anything like that happening before.

next time it happens,

get a full 'ps aux', 'netstat' (just the last part of it, with all the unix domain socket stuff), and hmm... can't think of anything else right now...

edit: maybe an 'xauth list' ?
