Inspired by the highly popular Game AI Programmers Dinner organised at GDC by Steve, Neil and Eric, I''ve organized a similar gathering which will take place around GDC Europe. Of course, the format has been adjusted to match the local British culture, so it''s the Game AI Developer''s Pub Crawl. The planned date is Thursday 28th August (it''s the middle of summer, but it should be almost as hot as San Jose in march). It''s not an excuse for me to show off my path-planning abilities around central London. In fact, even the simplest reactive behaviors would suffice; we''ll be crawling along Earl Court Road. Here''s the schedule:
  • 18:00 - GDCE reception*, meet in lobby after lectures
  • 20:00 - Prince Of Teck, 161 EC Road
  • 20:45 - The Courtfield, 187 EC Road
  • 21:30 - The BlackBird, 209 EC Road
  • 22:15 - O''Neils, 326 EC Road
*: There are some unconfirmed events around the GDCE / ECTS, so some details may change. Europe and the UK is host to some of the best AI programmers in the world, and this gathering will be a good opportunity to study their collective intelligence . There will at least three people in the pub crawl, Mike Ducker from Lionhead, Dr. Rob Saunders of City University, and myself Alex Champandard. Goal 1: Have a fun & educational chat with other developers Goal 2: Get the folks from Lionhead drunk and lure them to reveal details about their AI Anyway, enough joking. Reply here if you''re interested! Alex Champandard

Sounds like a plan. I''m a relative rookie in the field and the AI programmer (amongst other things) for a small indie team based in the UK. We''re down at GDC Tuesday to Friday and I''d welcome the opportunity to display exactly how non-deterministic my behaviour gets after a few pints of "Owd Bob''s Knackers".

Count me in Sounds like fun.

I will indeed be there and will attempt to bring some of my AI brethren with me.

Mike
Excellent.
Alas, I leave for India on the 20th. :o(

(I can''t believe you''ve drawn up a timetable. How much chance is there of you sticking to that!)

Are there any requirements to participate?

fup: Very high chances I''ve had practice at university!

The main reason is to allow people to catch up with us if they are late or get lost.

geekster:

If you are at GDCE, no requirements at all

Otherwise if you meet us outside, interest/knowledge in AI is welcome, and a desire to chat to others involved in game development.

Of course, you could buy me a drink, but you don't have to! hehe

I'm definently considering it. The plane ticket costs only 199 kr. (about 20 pounds) each way. Would be cool to meet some with the same interrest as me for a change. And if I just get drunk enough I won't fear sounding stupid

edit: And sure, I'll buy you a drink if I make it.

PS: If I get too drunk, can someone put me on a coach to Leicester please? :>
