sry, I don''t respond to AP''s. You didn''t convey many worthwhile thoughts anyways, and mostly flamed me for my thoughts, threatened to kill me for this concept, and proved that you are the one who should not be playing games like these, because you take things too seriously. I find it hard to believe that you are old enough to drink when you are as immature and ignorant as you are.
I''m going to try and get back on topic here, so this doesn''t get moved to the lounge as a Violent Games topic. I''ve been thinking of possible motif''s for the main character. Originally I planned for him to be silent ala GTA3. However, I began thinking of the reasoning behind this. I figured that the designers simply didn''t know a safe way to portray a killer. But then came Vice City, and Mr. Vercetti was portrayed as nothing but a bad guy, no reasoning. I want the sorrows of the character''s life to strike a nerve in the player.
Needless to say the guy has to be a psycho, which type is what I was pondering. Should he have been an outcast in highschool with a hitlist(see below)? Or should he feel that what he''s doing is justified in some way (religion, got in his way(he is superior), humans are just another animal(the strongest survive), etc.)? Or perhaps as, I believe AdventureDesign said, he''s a failure of some scientific experiment.
I thought that the character would be nicely portrayed through flashbacks. I imagined a cutscene that will show him amidst horrible nightmares based on flashbacks of things happening to him in high-school. i.e. things more horrible than what happened to Carrie in Mr. King''s Horror tale. Perhaps he glanced at the backside of a cheerleader, and was caught by her boyfriend. So he and his Jock friends beat him up, and shove him into a locker for the night. The next morning, the janitor finds him covered with bruises, blood, and tears. He may actually once have a good day, where a girl was nice to him, he was feeling good, and when he gets home, his drunken father decides that he should be beaten for not being home in time to clean the house. After high school, he still works in the same burger joint, where his boss is constantly on his case. His mother was killed when he was young, and his father constantly blames him for it.
His whole life was full of sadness, and as an adult, something just snaps. I was thinking maybe I could show him late one night, living alone, coming home from a bad day of work, and he begins talking to himself. He begins wondering what the point of living is, when all he does is work for his next paycheck, so he can use it to pay the bills. He''s not confident enough to ever talk/date/marry a girl and start a family. He''s crying. Amidst his sorrow, he finds himself forming a list of those who had done this to him. He marks "(and family)" for those he especially hates. Included in the list is his father, his former gym teacher, jocks from highschool, etc. Typical outcast tale.
Any other good ideas of how to depict a psycho? I''d appreciate that more than "questioning my reasoning".
DON''T COPY THAT FLOPPY!
Serial Killer Game
I think violent games are bad...rabble rabble rabble. No, kidding, I like the ideas. DO NOT do the ''scientic experiment gone wrong'' idea. It''s old, is never interesting, boring. Do what you wrote about for 2 paragraphs. The jocks, dad, mother, all that, VERY good ideas. Make sure you include ALL those and maybe more if there''s time. But, also concentrate on the gameplay, too, don''t forget it.
Well, I''m GONNA respond to APs because I hate stupidity.
Ummm, is that not what I was saying? Why are you arguing with me when we agree? Can you comprehend what I say?
I don''t remember saying anything about maturity. So, I don''t know where you''re pulling that from. And, no, I''m not old enough to drink yet. But maturity is not decided by age, mind you.
Yup. You''re right. I like to play violent video games so I''m automatically demented. It doesn''t matter that I''m growing up with a loving family and awesome friends. Nope. Video games are the only things that affect how I live. So, yup, you got me, I''m demented, evil, and I want to kill everything in sight. Good deduction.
And are you ever going to back up your opinions with facts or something to work with? Or are you just going to be an ignorant fool here to piss everyone off? But, don''t worry, you''re not angering anybody.

before i say a thing im a different anonymous poster, so dont launch into a tirade of abuse.
I read this link just cus it sounded funny. milla time and Moose on the most part have succeded with that. previous AP, you''ve made some mistakes.
I thought you were just missing the point that this was all just a bit of fun, probably because there are violent computer games out there that are nearly like this game in nature (postal and gta are the most obvious), and yes, violent games have shown to cause child killing sprees.
BUT (two major problems with your argument here)
1: violent computer games are never (NEVER) the only reason for children pulling guns out in schools. they are always other factors. Also it has been shown time and time again that an adult over the age of eighteen will not be affected by computer games. I cannot think of one adult killer or psychopath case where computer games are sited as an influence. you may not know a lot about killers, but Im starting training to (i hope) become a forensic pathologist, and i like to think I do. Computer games should not be supplied to children below the certificate age, or with a mentality below that of the certificate age. The responsibility is down to the parent. I do agree with you that children are more able to get computer games than cigarettes, alcolhol and even guns, but this is simply testament that computer games are less dangerous than cigarettes, alcohol or guns. Though I agree it should be more strictly enforced. Its like the saying guns dont kill people, stupid people with guns kill people. Same applies for violent computer games, they dont hurt anyone, it is parents responsibility to ensure that their consequences and their children dont hurt people. Computer games for adults are just vicarious, they simulate feelings that you do not want to/cannot experience in real life. As long as the person playing a computer game watches a violent and disturbing scene, and are suitably disturbed by it, there are no problems.
2: "I can take my liquor, kids cant take violent games"
I hate, hate hate hate hate with a PASSION, the word liquor. It sums up images of inbred rednecks sitting on porches with shotguns drinking moonshine. That pissed me off but I could forgive you. but the context: I can take my liquor... has confirmed in my mind that you quite obviously weight lift, and talk about going out with your ''buddys'', you probably own a pickup truck. It just shows an over inflated ego of yourself. In fact youre probably one of those big fellas who''s built like a tank but goes straight down in a fight because he''s always relied on his appearance to get him through life. (and is secretly a celine dion fan)
I am old enough to drink, smoke, drive, own a gun, vote, play violent computer games and watch violent films. But i dont smoke cus it kills you, and I drink in moderation cus I''ve seen first hand the effects of alcohol abuse and I''ve hurt (and lost) people I love through getting drunk. Its nothing that I''m proud of. Now when my ''buddys'' come round I have a quiet beer or two, and we may watch violent films and play violent games.
Except for next week when were going on a killing spree.
Millatime, id buy your game just to piss people off. especially my pickup driving shotgun wielding liquor swigging buddy here...

damn it! I forgot to point out how irritating the whole cigs thing was too...
Well, maybe the lighting could be like in the movie The Crow! You were killed, and now you have come back to kill your killers.
Now I shall systematicly disimboule you with a .... Click here for Project Anime
Of course you could make it and people would buy it. I personally thought GTA was a stupid idea, until I played GTA3 then Vice City. I can''t stop playing. Well I guess I did when I bought Madden 04.
Anyway, adult games like that will sale. And when the media catches on to your game then it will sale even more. Think about all the free press you would get when someone like Bill Orelly or Dateline runs a piece on your game. That kind of press can''t be bought. People would flock to your site and jam up your server trying to find out what the big deal is. You will be amazed how people will pay to find out what the big deal is.
You probably would have to distribute your game on your web site first. Basically distributing it yourself as no publisher will probably touch it at first. Contraversy would scare them away. In fact it scares everyone until the money starts rolling in, then they would turn the other cheek and act like they didn''t just read about it in the morning paper
As for the person who said the map would be too big, that isn''t true. As a engineer and founding partner of Black Box Interactive, Inc. (http://www.blackboxinteractive.com) I can personally tell you that it can be done. We are in the process of making a 3D engine for commercial use and the trick to do it would be not to use a map of course. You would use a terrain that wraps and only draws when you are within a certain range of an object. I''m sure GTA 3/Vice City use this technique. Once you walk inside a building you could do as GTA does or you could load a BSP map. This would allow you to have every building useable by the main character.
As far as story goes, the other person was right. You would get bored with just killing people. You will need some kind of system where they would be rewarded for kiling certain people. Just random killing is only fun for 2 mins. You can do it in GTA but that gets boring there quick too.
Anyway just my 2 cents, that might only be worth 1 cent to come. LOL!
