Sonar 2.0, Cool Edit Pro Help?

Hello, Does anyone know how to configure Sonar 2.0 and Cool Edit Pro 2.0 so that when I press play in Sonar, it will automatically record in Cool Edit Pro without having to press Record in the program? I am pretty sure I have to route MIDI through each of the programs, just not quite sure how to configure exactly. The documentation, of course, is not of much assistance. Is this even possible? If is is not, it should be... Thanks, GameGenie
I don''t understand - what is so hideously repulsive about pressing the record button in CEP and then pressing play in Sonar?

If you are trying to export an individual MIDI track to Digital Audio so that you can process that track in an Audio program like Cool Edit Pro (to add reverb and effects), it is very important to keep the timing between the tracks. Pressing play in Sonar, and having that record at the exact same time in Cool Edit Pro is imperative because of the timing issue. Recording each track in Sonar, exporting it from Sonar, importing it into Cool Edit Pro can be a tedious and time-consuming process, especially if you have 20 MIDI tracks to export!!
You''re stuck with tedious if you want to do individual track mixdowns.

If you want to record the tracks in CEP then use a rimshot at the same point at the start of each track. That will take you minutes, if not seconds, to sync up in CEP.
Thanks KenBar,

What a pain the ass that is though. I guess if you want "professional" quality sound, you gave to work for it.

Hi Gamegenie,

I use both Sonar and CEP on a daily basis. I''m a little confused as to why you don''t just render your midi to audio in Sonar? Why do you want to record it into CEP? I pretty much do everything in Sonar and just use CEP for working with my final mixdowns.

In Sonar, you can apply effects diretly to those rendered audio track there or, if you still want to, just highlight the file and click Tools > Cool Edit Pro and bring the file up in CEP.

If you''re still having problems configuring your system, give me an email and I''ll be glad to help you out.

Maybe I didn''t quite understand your questions but I hope this helps.

Thanks Sonic Lamb,

I would rather use CEP to render files because it is, in my opinion, much easier to do than in Sonar for this type of thing. Your idea of using tools in Sonar to bring the file into CEP works a lot better than exporting, then importing into CEP. So, I guess I am a lot happier than I was and am able to save more time as well.

Thanks,

GameGenie
