Just saw a pic of this desktop, and i found it very interesting. It's a huge scrollable desktop...Anybody knows of something like that for Linux? Victor. EDIT: By the way, that's a pic of an OS called "Athene". They've got pretty nice inovations for the desktop. You can see more screenshots HERE.

My system likes to do that sort of thing if an ap changes the res and fails to set it back. I can make it do it by switching res using ALT+CTRL+ "+". It keeps the desktop the same but the res is lower so you have to pan around to get to stuff. Dont know how to make it do it by default or why you would want to. It sucks. The muti-desktop thing works nicely.

The thing is that these "tricks" you can do with X looks more like a bug than a feature... that is, to became a feature it would need to be more explored. For example, there should be a easy wasy for navigating in the desktop, and also maybe something like MacOSX Panther''s new feature, "Expose".

They''re features. If you make a desktop larger than the screen dimensions, it scrolls. Simple.

Isn''t there an X applet called Panel or so? The KDE, CDE, GNOME, WM and OpenWindows versions show outlines of all windows on the active desktop in miniature; the Enlightenment version shows the actual frames. Expose is just full-screen Panel coupled with some useful quick-tiling/cascading keys. It''s great, but it''s not groundbreaking.

What "easy way for navigating in the desktop" would you like to see? You already point and click, and have shortcuts for switching virtual desktops - and have no hard-coded limit on the number of virtual desktops you can have, they just tend to get confusing after 4. X is architecturally sound; it just needs a bit of an update in certain areas. Don''t fall into the habit of knocking it reflexively.
