Sound editing... Help!
I got a job offer editing music recently, but I have to get the software to do it.
Basically, it would consist of doing things like fade-ins, fade-outs, removing things (say, a guitar solo), and the like.
Free is good, but so is $100ish.
I have Goldwave, but it''s giving me a lot of trouble for some reason, so I''m looking for alternatives while I try and sort through this - plus, I''m not even sure goldwave is what I really need.
If you have any advice, I would really appreciate it.

hi,
it depends how clean it needs to be....
i''ve simply used the WAVE editor (supports mp3 and a few other formats as well though) that comes as part of Nero (cd writing software) to do a few joins/fades/edits and it sounds fine.
there are probably more advanced pieces of kit to do more in depth work but as long as you have a good ear and can edit accurately, you shouldn''t have any problems with basic software.
....unless you meant breaking down a piece of music into seperate instrument tracks and editing them that way.. in which case my advice is useless

When you say "remove a guitar solo" do you mean mute the part in a multitrack mix, or find some software that is going to make the guitar part disappear magically from a stereo mix?
If its the latter, then it isn’t possible.

I''ll have to check my NERO cd for that, Metal, thanks.
And I just mean to take, say, a particular 64 seconds (or however long) out of the song cleanly enough to sound like it was meant to be that way.
I don''t think I''m going to be dealing with multri-track stuff, just your average bounced-down CD-quality music

red eye is coming back (the old site is still around, albeit in a weird transitional form)

Cool. Thats totally doable. Being able to crossfade may help to mask transitions.
Goldwave should be able to handle all that you want to do - what problems are you having exactly?

Well, mainly Goldwave just shutting down for no apparent reason. Although, it may be when I try to do anything with an mp3, but I''ll have to try it with some wavs, etc.
