2 Attacks for a human Character (Prerendered Sprite)
Hi all, what do you think about this animation?? Any critics on the way he moves or about the model??

Model looks nice, but the animations need a little work. It definitely looks like he''s holding back, especially in the first swing. My friend (a 3D modeller-to-be) once told me to always think of the extremes when animating, and to exaggerate them. I think this applies here. Really exaggerate the pull back, and the follow through with the swing. I think it will look even better.
Good job though

Looks really nice, I''m thinking its just a little slow, It looks as if he is showing someone how its done rather then trying to chop someone in half..
Very well done though, I''ve looked at the webpage for you game and it looks like its going to be very good.. keep up the good work and I wish you the best of luck with your project

Your friend is wise.
.lick
it''s the Disney principle
Look for the famous "pillowcase animation" and you''ll understand the widom of the principle.
In the case of your guy, the problem is that the sword doesnt really follow the movement.
What you have there would be more of a parry movement. If you want to hurt someone with a sword, it has to have momentum, and to do that, you would show the sword continuing its movement until it is pointing forward of the character, as opposed to what you have now, where it''s pointing upwards (which is why I call it a parry movement, rather than attack).
To be more precise, your character isnt using his wrist enough. You have to use the wrist more if you want to hurt someone with that sword !
Does it make any sense ?

Looking at it, i think the problem is after the first strike the sword is raised back into a similar position in where it started.
The it moves across to start the next strike.
A more fluent and more real looking way to make a two strike swing would be after the first strike the sword follows through to start position of the second swing and then strikes again. Basically the ending position of the sword from the first swing is the start of the second.
Unless your going for the two strikes as single non flowing seperate movements then disregard my comments.
Cheers

It looks very nice. Less frames on the strike will do the job of adding violence. If you can fake the sword-wake with a painting program it would look even better.
EDIT: And I think he shouldn't headback until the second strike is done. I mean, the second strike should begin where the first finished taking the impulse from the bottom. Bah, I guess.
EDIT2: Exactly the same the above post says![](tongue.gif)
Anyway I think it's pretty cool![](wink.gif)

[size="2"]I like the Walrus best.
Ouch sorry i should have put this before.
This were ment to be 2 separeted movements, the game will make some kind of random when you hit a monster only one move will be showed for strike, and that doesn´t mean that the character will do the strikes in this order or will use this kind of sequence, he could hit 3 times with the same style of attack. For that reason the chararcter goes back to the original position after doing the first strike. I should have posted two gifs instead of one.
Lol!! Yeah he has only his underwear and a sword!! He has no pants or shirt, because this will be the basic character, let´s say someone kills you and you will lost all yours belonging (carried by you), and when the priest bring you back to life you will have nothing only your underwear!!
So let´s regroup the info that i learned so far:
-Exaggerate the movements when animating for games
-Faster and violent moves
-Use more the wrist of the character
-Fake the sword-wake would look even better
-For two strike swing would be after the first strike the sword follows through to start position of the second swing and then strikes again.
Thanks all for your comments, i will use this info to improve my sprite, as soon as i can i will post the movements improved and another ones so i could improve the other and i don´t bore you with the same movement over and over again!!![](wink.gif)
