HL used DirectX > 7.0, HL2 will most likely use DX8 or DX9 which is MUCH better (as good as GL)
Half life 2 engine feels much better than Doom 3''s

haha check the video over Gamespot...you''ll be damn sure it''s not a Q III engine... the IGN demo just dont represent the power of the engine...

man that anti-gravity gun!!!
Here goes...

Half-Life 2 will run on any graphics card that supports DX6. That''s right, DirectX SIX.

It definatley does NOT use the Quake 3 engine, and anyone with brains can see that.

Trust me, it looks nothing like like Urban Terror. I am an avid UrT player and have seen heaps of HL2 trailers.

Not sure. They will probably focus on different things so making a comparison may not be easy. The HL2 water I saw on snapshot was really nice (dynamic cubemapped reflection-refraction with per fragment perturbation I guess). Whoa.

Comparing a unofficially leaked demo which is actually quite old with the snapshots which were given in a controlled environment is not really fair in my opinion.
BTW, engine programmability will surely be one strenghts of Doom3.

About the DX-only thing... I have read just a review (and I hope it to be wrong!). This would really suck. Xbox is a target machine I guess however, wrapping the whole 3d-API in a more abstracted, engine-dependant API is possible (unreal, HL1) so I personally still hope in a GL port.

I just saw a preview of Half-Life II on ign.com, the graphics quality seem to look just like Quake III''s graphic quality. Has Serria bought the Quake engine agien?

LMAO. Uh, no.

There are about 9 videos knocking about, most of them from Gamespot - watch them and you''ll be confirmed that HL2 most certainly does not use the Q3 engine.

That doesn''t mean it uses DirectX 6 (8 is very likely)
