How can i render hole map to use it like infinity engine does?
Please help guys. I am using Lightwave 7.5 but it doesn''t matter which program if you know the solution in another program say please, it''s very important.
Something with ortographics if i am not wrong?
Here''s what I''m doing.
If I want an 800X600 map I set the height of the camera to 30 meters.
If I want a 1600X1200 map I set the camera height to 60 meters.
And so on.
Make sure you set the output size of the image to the map size you want.
The Baldurs Gate people are from Canada so they may have used feet. Possibly 100 ft for an 800X600 screen
I also switch on Orthographic projection.
You also have to play with the Field of View:
I set it to 22.615mm or 77.035 degrees.

Orthographic projection is from 3D Studio Max. It might be perspective correction in Lightwave. In that case you would turn it off. Basically you don''t want things that are further away to appear smaller.

Oh, and by the way, Canada is a metric nation.
We measure things in metres, centimetres, millimetres, litres, grams, etc.
...so much ignorance about our country. I can''t begin to fathom why.

Yes that is the only thing that is problem ![](smile.gif)
And under which angle do i have to render should it be 40 degrees like as i render sprites or 75??
What do you suggest?

I use 30 degrees for everything. I point the camera down from the horizontal plane by 30 degrees and I also rotate the plane (that the map is on) by 30 degrees.
I worked out using basic trigonometry that the Baldurs Gate people used 40.XXX degrees. I can't remember the decimal places though. It depends on the look you are going for and what your programmers are doing with their tiles. So ask your programmers what angle to use.

I am my own programmer and i will not use tiles. I''ll render hole map and use it in game just like BG and then draw sprites on it.
You won''t be able to load a 50 meg map without heaps of problems. I am a programmer as well BTW.
The Baldurs Gate people didn''t load the whole map at the start of the game. They only load the section that is visible in the viewport. The next time you play Baldurs Gate, scroll around the map and watch your harddrive light flicker.
The tile size they used for BG was 16X12.

i was pretty sure BG used pre rendered terrain, not tiles. In which case they do load the entire thing into memory and simply blit it.
