i dont know how good this would be for the programmers out there but tell the company, either ATI or Nvidia, that the programmers will use their custom shaders. Personally Cg would be easier to use. anyway, Nvidia has a bunch of demos on their page and maybe they can use the winner''s demo and post it on their page.
just an idea.
ATI sucks

My card doesn''t support vertex, or pixel shaders

But all the more reason to get nvidia or ATI to sponsor

I think you need to go thru back door. Checkout rage3d forum and/or contact jason from ati. Jason''s addy should be on gl ext. specs. Ati gave two cards to crystal space engine makers for testing I think they''ll give some away for contest especially for sites like nehe. Maybe you can make an exclusive deal with ati by letting them host your best demos. People like to check out nice demos myself included.
The case in point though, is that go look on opengl.org you''ll see that Nehe''s site is what brings so much coding interest to the OpenGL scene from demo sceners as well as just your average homebrew developers.
ATI is certainly not the only vendor you could get for support, nVidia would definitely be a better choice.
So how about this proposal? A contest to see who can make the best nVidia promotional demo, the winner of the contest would receive a Geforce 4 or some really good OpenGL card and would also get their promotional to be featured on nVidia''s site. The nVidia demos that currently exist are not that great, any good demo coder can come in and make something better. So it''s a
win-win situation, they get a cool demo to show off the features of their hardware all for the price of a video card that in reality only costs about $50 to make. I think it''s a great trade on both sides of the deal.

doing that you instantly put the contest out of reach of 50% of all possible entrants and all possible viewers. I don''t really see that being a good idea. Personally I''d never even consider entering an nvidia demo contest. I would have in the past but now I honestly have little respect for nvidia.

I''d send NVidia an email, but I don''t think theyd give nehe a graphics card just because some 13 year old who they''ve never heard of wants them to...

I''ve got another suggestion:
Mebbe those who actually OWN a recent ATI card on this board could send their Proof of Purchase to NeHe and an email to ATI explaining WHY they should consider this.
I''d be willing. Got a 9500 Pro just recently.

No Excuses
I write NeHe a while back on a few of my ideas. Heres the email:

I’ve done a bit of research into getting graphics card developers to sponsor the two towers contest. We probably shouldn’t mass mail the companies – it would tick them off and they won’t sponsor.
The basic idea is they sponsor us and they get free advertising. In you’re e-mail you should first mention who your organization is (It is critical that you sound official or they will just ignore you) and what specifically they will have to sponsor. Outline their primary responsibilities and any further responsibilities that they can contribute to. You probably want to mention that it is going to be based on TTT (or whatever theme you decide).
Then you go into a brief history of your organization and why it is unique. Here you try to establish that you are a decent organization to be associated with – since nehe.gamedev.net is, you should have no problems. A statement of the organization’s mission might be nice as it maintains you’re objectivity. Mention how you plan to achieve these goals (tutorials and contests) and the successes you have. You can then lead into why you need the sponsorship – to increase the number of contests.
You should end with what they get – the advertising. You probably will have to sacrifice some space on the site for logos and such. Here is where you want to be creative and peak their interest – saying you can just advertise on the web site is not good enough. You want to give an idea of the amount of audience that view the site and their demography. Numbers and pie graphs are usually suitable for the size of the audience. Since the majority of people that visit the site buy specific video cards, demography should be easy as well. However, since this is a development site you could go a bit further with the advertising. You could give the company tutorial space. In this space the company could write tutorials for their specific card extensions. Therefore, to use these extensions the audience must that specific brand of card. Coincidently, links to that company’s page are located on the site (it’s a bit cynical but it couldn’t hurt – you decide). We need to generate a few more ideas for corporate advertising to peek their interests – we could do this on the message board.
In closing you could include a document containing the signatures (scanned pics) of all the potential contestants that eagerly await their sponsorship.
I’m not too sure if you should mention to each company that you are looking for sponsorship from other companies. They may say to just go to the other companies – they get a lot of sponsorship requests. The awkward thing you might run into if you don’t let them know is if two companies decide to sponsor – you will have to reject one.

I'll be up for that.
I have a 9000Pro and would definitely send in proof of purchase to help NeHe
His tutorials have always been great and very informative.
You can tell he puts a lot of hard work into the tutes.
Perhaps if NeHe sent in a request to OpenGL.org and see if they'll help out things will most likely change.
He is the number one tutorial link on their site so I'm sure they'd help.
