It''s only open to the states. That sucks...

llvllatrix: Keep me informed of your idea, I''d be glad to help out, i know he''s helped me out a ton. Just keep in mind that it has to run on a "Matrox Millenium G400", so it may have to be a DirectDraw game, i''m not sure how well the G400 handles opengl. Anyways, like I said, keep me informed, i''m a pretty decent programmer.

If you get any farther with this idea, let me know, I think it''s great, and I would love to help out! Even though I don''t live in the states, if the community is developing it, I think it''s ok.
Matrox G400 handles OpenGL pretty bad, but handles it anyway. I rank it third after nVidia GeForce series and ATi Radeon series.
Is there anyway to get around the open to the states thing? Perhaps someone could enter it on behalf of NeHe or something? Just have to make sure they dont run off with the prize money
As for OpenGL; at least it runs it right. And we have a community that could debug the game so im sure one of you have the matrox card.
Only one thing left - ask NeHe.

LMAO! I think that if we all worked on a community game, and entered it, NeHe would have to submit it, or someone he knows. Be honest, if you had $100,000k would you give it away? Seriously. I would not
I would split it, but not hand it over. This way everyone who works on it gets in the credits and NeHe has money to help the site.

it sounds very generous of all you.
but a few concerns.
1) one this "type" of project has been done before.
just ask Jim Adams, Myopic Rhino, and Geoff.
2) secondly you''d have to have a damn good game which means
a VERY detailed design doc and MOST IMPORTANTLY a dedicated
team.
3) which is very hard to do seeing that everyone has a life and bills.
4*) so if you can get past the B.S. and work together and so that you can stay the course i think the GDNet staff will approve it and maybe give you your own private forum (who knows?
).
my 2 cents is given

I know what you mean. Its hard to even start a game but coordinate everyone and...well you get the idea. But i mean if everyone put asside their pet projects and focused on creating this game it "might" happen. I know eproject will give us all a free messageboard and management tools. They also provide free web space and a web interface so we can all upload and download files.
Im also sure we could pool the other boards for help - if we explained our cause. NeHe would probably be the one writing the design document, or at least the one with the last say. There are also good tutorials online on how to make a game engine (code on the cob) by a guy who worked on duke nukem forever.
The big thing we will all have to overcome is the fact that we all have lives...well all except me. I have all of summer free and have no bills to pay. Im going to university in september and cant think of a better way to spend my time. Also have about three other guys in the same boat.
