I am trying to do the tutorials for 3ds max 5.0 (I am a beginner). I am trying right now to do the chess pieces, specifically the knight, and it tells you to load a background image as a reference to do the shape. I do all the steps in the tutorial but I cannot get it to load. Any help?

if the background image doesn''t work for some reason, u can just put the image onto a model of a box. just be sure to click :show material in material editor, or something like that.

create a box.
material editor->new material
diffuse->bitmap (choose reference image)
material editor->show material in viewport.
drag material onto box.

wala! just make sure u have the correct view port settings (smooth shaded etc...)

Good idea to use the box anyways. Viewport backgrounds get distorted easily.

Thanx for the help guys. I went to discreets site and updated to v.5.1 and it fixed my problem. I still don''t know what was causing it. Thanx, sorry to bother.
