could anyone recomend some beat detection software. I''m interested in something that I can run on an mp3/wav and have it output the time offsets for beats. Thanks
I am now and have been working on my first game for the past 4 months or so and am now getting familiar with some different programs. I do have a few friends out there who are musicians as well and have had experience using programs such as sonar and cake walk. These are good for large recordings and can catter to a lot of different needs in the respects of beat detection, but another program that I have encountered and are currently using myself is Cool Edit Pro 2.0 that is geared more torwards working with wave files and seems to be more friendly and gives you alot more freedom to alter your sounds. Beat detection is included in it as well, although, I have yet to have need for it yet, but it does generate scripts and code as well I believe. I would visit the web site and look around to get some more information. you can find it at

for what application? cooledit has a beat detection that moves the cursor to the next beat in the audio file, sequencers like logic have the ability to snap their timing to a midi file.. i recently used this feature on a file of footsteps, generating midi notes i used to add some synthetic reinforcement to them, worked nicely. i always thought cooledit''s was a little off, but useful if you''re manually overdubbing on a file. even more useful is just doing it by eye/ear.
