I'm looking for a program that will extract the beat from a WMA sound file and convert it to a MIDI drum track. Basically, I would like it to convert "beat boxing" to MIDI. I googled, but found nothing. If you know of a program that does this, I'd love to know about it, before I spend a ton of time I don't have creating it myself. I was at a workshop last July and spoke with a Sibelius rep about this same problem. He said that every music software company is working hard to be the first to figure out how to do this, but nobody has succeeded yet. I haven''t heard anything new since then so I assume that it''s still not possible.
That''s what I was afraid of, but I was being hopeful. My ideal composition method would be to sing, hum, and make drum noises into my microphone in a multi-track recording program, then convert the non-vocal tracks (tracks without lyrics) to instruments; I could do drums, guitar, horns, you name it all with my voice. That would be cool, because it would free me to improvise without restriction. Also my rhythmn is better with
my mouth than with my hands (don''t know why, but it is).

Anyway, I may give the rhythm part of this a try myself, then when I get a sufficiently long break. Pitch detection and transcription is a killer, but I would think the rhythm problem (without worrying about pitch) would be much simpler.
I found this:

It is WAV to MIDI converter i think... thats what it says anyway.. have a look!

there''s loads of stuff that will do it if it''s just rhythm.. look for features with names like ''groove extractor..'' if it''s just one file, i can use logic for you.. i believe orion does it as well.

So, Orion Pro will do that? I didn''t know that.
