Which 3d graphics designer should I use to make my RPG game? I can use Maya, but I want to see if there is any better ones around.

Maya is generally considered the ''big granddaddy'' of 3D editing packages. It is the best of the best of the best, sir!

The other ''big two'' are 3DS Max and Softimage|XSI. I''ve tried a demo of Softimage and I didn''t like it; I''m trained in 3DS Max.

In the end it comes down to personal preference. I''m using Milkshape for my current project - the pricetag is the main factor.

I used to use 3ds Max but I made the switch to Maya 4.5 and I''m loving it. The interference is super easy and clean and the tools are powerful (not to mention the animation tools kick 3ds max in the ass).

But you should choose the one you''re most comfortable with, although i highly recommend Maya.
Maya is by far the best modelling/animation package although Lightwave is considered to have the most beautiful renderer in the business. Then there are plenty of other choices such as Renderman, houdini, render-dotc, hash animation master, bmrt, exluna, 3dsmax, blender, milkshape, softimage, pov-ray, 3dvirtualight. All of which have their pros and cons. You really need to try and see which suits your needs best. Most have demo versions that can be downloaded for free or they are free. Lightwave can be sent to on a cd from newteks homepage for free (30days trial), same with softimage, maya has a free version at their page. BMRT is free and 3dvirtualight also same with pov-ray. Blender is also free but now opensource. Animation master may have a demo version I don''t know. excluna to my knowledge doesn''t have a demo version, milkshape does. Houdini doesn''t as far as I know. So you need to look around.

Caligari TrueSpace is getting better and better.
You guys that don't like older versions of TS, and
never have really checked out newer versions
like 5.2 (6.5 will be released very soon. or, is it already out?), please don't misinform newbies with what you
remember TrueSpace to be plus prejudices on new versions.

TrueSpace is much more affordable than Max or Maya.
Be sure to have checked the demo of a recent version out
before you go getting the more expensive software.

Maya is the best 3d modeling program ever.
Not as common as 3dsmax for game dev in my experience.
not the best renderer but whos perfect.
if you''ve got the doe go with maya.
gMax anyone? its free and has reduced functionality catering to game development modeling. just a thought.

Maya is not the ''big grandaddy'' of 3d packgages. XSI by far is the most feature rich end to end solution for ANY project involving 3D. This includes games, TV Commercials, 3D features (movies, shorts), special effects. etc.

GMAX is requires special licensing to be legit when used for creating your own games. It is meant for gamers to create new content for existing games. Although if this hamster or gerbil or whatever the hell he is has got Maya, he doesn''t mine using pirated stuff.

Max is probaly the standard for PC game development.
