First off dude, if you don''t want to shell out the money, then find a different hobby. Programming can be kind of expensive buying all the tutorials and programs. But if you are determinsed to learn a language and then make a game (which I practiced with QBasic for a year without making my first game) start off with a language like QBasic. You can download it from many sites, just look it up yahoo or google and download it for free. I learned from reading tutrials at qbasic.com and a site I can''t remember, but I do remember that the guy called himself radiohands, it is a great website that teaches you how to make games. If you need any more help, feel free to email me at brerick@msn.com. Good luck.

Dev-C++ is one of the better compilers available; and that's free. Tutorials are, again, free (take a look around this site). Programing SDK's are free as well. Good freeware art/modeling programs are available as well in the form of the gimp and blender, respectively.

About the only thing you should be expected to shell out for at some point is a good book on C++ (or whatever language you decide to go with). Learning a language from tutorials is not the way to go, in my experience.

I dissagree with Berick that programming is expenive. The only money that i''ve realy spent on programming is phone bills for the internet!
Programming can and should be free. The imortant thing to have when programming is an inquering mind. I started by tinkering with QBASIC, and now i''m in the world of openGL, C, win32 and COM programming. Just play and work out how things work. I have never been tought how to programm, i just picked it up by messing around with code, prodding it until it doesnt work etc. and going through online tutorials. Theres heaps of stuff out on the ''net, you''ve just got to look for it.

They best way to learn is by doing.

Is anyone keeping up with the current comic strips from www.dragon-tails.com?

Crashfan, give it up. Your excitement will be gone by tomorrow.

If you are concerned about costs, there are always free compilers and such.
Check out GNU/Linux. GCC, KDevelop, and a number of other tools are available at no cost to you. You just have to invest the time to learn. That might cost you money, but if you are as enthusiastic about it as you seem, you should have no problem with it.
