Does anyone know what a .CBF file is, or how to convert it to something else?
I need to know if this a compressed file or archive that has been compressed. Also, I looking for modding tools that recognize this format. I have a couple of these files and when opened in a Hex editor both have the text ''BIGF.ZBL'' as the first thing on the first line. Also, at the end of both files is what appears to be a directory structure of some sort.
Here is an example of two files listed in this ''directory'':
DEV/EDITOR/ANNIM/BOX_HUD_12.TGA...!@.....#...^^...DEV/EDITOR/
ANNIM/BOX_HUD_13.TGA.....$^%...!!
So, what is this. I am assuming it is a compressed archive of some sort that could easily be extracted from if decompressed. I am also assuming that this ''directory structure'' is something like a key file pointing to the beginning of the file elsewhere in the archive.
I have read that .CBL is a version of .BIF or .BFF format, but have to find any way of converting the file to these formats.
I am probably wrong and if I am please tell me. If you have any ideas that might help please tell me. I haven''t had much luck finding any helpful information about the .CBF format, so any information you have is greatly appreciated.
Where did you get a CBF file? Is it related to a specific game? It looks like the Baldur''s Gate engine had CBF files in there. Wotsit shows CBF files in relation to a chess game. There''s also the Crystallographic Binary File, which doesn''t sound like what you''re looking for.
Google gave me 2 of the 3 items I mentioned, so maybe try that for your searches.

Thanks, the .CBF file format is used by "Vietcong". Unfortunately Baldur''s Gate has a different take on this format. It uses a .KEY file, that''s in the game directory, to read contents of the .CBF, "Vietcong" does not. It reads directly from the .CBF.
Crystallographic Binary File is what I have been researching lately, but all of the documentation says that is still in development. I don''t think it is what I need either. The ChessBase (.CBF) is an old database format, from what I have found it is no longer used and is not related to what I am looking for.
