Major changes between VB6 and VB.net
Hi,
I have decided that I am going to learn visual basic and I was just wondering if there is really any major differences in the language in VB6 and VB.net because I already own a copy of visual studio 6 and I cant really afford to buy vb.net standard right now. So if I learn on vb6 will there be any big changes in the core language itself when I get the money to buy the .net ide.
Sorry for this long winded question.
Thanks for any replies.
You can consider VB net as a new programing language, much more enhanced than VB 6
If you decide to start with vb now, try NET. VB 6 is a waiste of time now that NET is released. My oppinion

VB.NET is full-blown object oriented. Not only do you have over 3500 .NET objects to your disposal, you can still access the Win32 api (with much better infrastucture.) Also I just found out that VB.NET has support for Direct-X 9.0 which is exciting, because VB.NET would be a much weaker game programming language than VB6 up until this point.
I agree with Crirus that learning VB6 now would be a waste, because VB.NET is 20 times better. VB6 sits on top of COM which does not solve alot of problems that .NET comes to solve.
Unfortunately im stuck learning VB6 along with VB.NET because im going for my MCSD certification for my career. Playing with VB.NET just makes VB6 so boring.
However .NET is not mature yet. This means alot of things you could do with VB6 are not ported over yet, but the good news is that VB.NET still lets you use old VB6 COM components.
