Which can (generally) be learned faster?
Which API is a beginning programmer likely to grasp faster-DirectX or OpenGL? I am currently a level designer, texture artist, game designer, etc. and I would like to assist in creating the graphics engine for my project, to speed things up a bit. (Commercial project, redesigned over and over since 1999, nothing like it was, awesome learning experience, will be revolutionary) I have a grasp on C++ concepts and would like opinions on which is easier to learn. . .
Thanks in advance.

Sorry to do this - but this is going to turn into a Direct3D vs. OpenGL war all too quickly - hence it will be locked. I think you might want to do some personal research to see what strikes your fancy. Do you like using COM interfaces, or state processing? Only supporting Wintel machines? Want the ability to port to other platforms? The answers are only based on your level of experience and what you''re able to handle.
