openAL
im sorry if this has come up in the past, but the search function of the forums is currently down.
i also didnt know the right place to post this, so i guess ill just do it here...
what is the current state of openAL? ive been looking around on the web, but loki closed down a while back, and since it seems creative has taken over? ive downloaded the sdk, but all the info is from 2000/2001... if openAL is no longer a viable option (was it ever?) are there any other options for platform agnostic sound development at that level?
any info/opinions on the subject are greatly appreciated thanks
The state of OpenAL: It''s complete. There''s nothing left to do to it really .
OpenAL is being picked up more recently. UT 2K3 uses it, for example. Everything that uses UT 2K3''s engine will use it. I''ve heard of other games that use it (mostly in other posts here on GameDev about OpenaL), but that''s all I have off the top of my head.
OpenAL is really easy to use, to I''m going to keep using it even if others don''t (it''s open source, it can''t really die).
If something is wrong with OpenAL that you''d like fixed, write a patch and submit it (I did, and it was accepted after Creative did lots of testing ). Go to opensource.creative.com or openal.org for instructions on getting the source code.

SOF2 is the other game I know of which certainly has the ablity to use OpenAL, I''m sure i knew of another one (I''m one of the ones which kept mentioning the games which use it a while back) but it escapes me atm
