Cross-Platform font rendering?

Hi all, Working on SkyWin again, though Linux this time. Problem is, I need to write stuff to the screen, and BuildFonts is no longer an option. So, can anyone suggest a method that will work under linux, and still work under windoze as well? -ReK
How about the font-texture approach where you use texcoords to zero in on each letter? He''s got a tutorial on this as well I believe.

X-Windows does have some font stuff that I used once. Check the XFree86 website for the docs. However, that would be very platform dependant.
