Need Ideas
I need a bit of help. I am in a QBasic programming class at school, which I have mastered. For our final exam, we must come up with a text based game. I am having trouble comming up with an idea. I would like to stray away from RPG's, since everybody else is already doing them. I was thinking an RTS but I am not sure. Anybody have any ideas of what I could do? Is their anything to do besides an RPG or RTS? Thanks.
EDIT: It also must be teacher appropriate.

I''m going to assume that Hangman wouldn''t be good enough
You could do Scrabble. The text-based board would be easy, and you could download a text-based library file somewhere; then you just write a simple AI that looks at all possible legal moves (that is, all moves which would create a word) and picks the one that gives the best score.
It''d be text-based, but you''d get the chance to be a little more creative and artistic with things. Like, different colored letters if they''re on a points square.

You run smell computer corp. your trying to make the best selling PC however the largest demographic is very choosey and you have to configure a PC which appeals to them, and sell x amount of comps in x amount of days.
An idea albeit a crappy one.

I was thinking about making an rts but i am not sure how to make the random attacks work and the win condition work. i think i may have a good enough economy down but it needs some help. any ideas?
I use QBasic sometimes (http://www.gbgames.com is my game review site), and I was thinking...wouldn''t a turn based strategy game be easier?
And I would suggest looking up text-based games on google. You might find out how they implemented the different genres outside of RPG and adventure games.

Currently I am making an Ultimate Frisbee game with a text based interface. Use |-\/ for players which give a (rough) idea of the direction of each player. Use background colors to signify different teams and use a different foreground color to show which player has the frisbee, if someone does in fact have the frisbee.
