It is pretty tough to stick with an exercise routine like weight-lifting. In fact it''s been about 2 weeks now since I''ve done my weight lifting due to finals at my university.
Well, I'm not going to lie and say I go running 3 times a week or any rubbish like that... however, I'm in pretty good physical condition, so I'll tell you my secret

1) Buy some weights.. they dont cost much, and you only really need the one-hand weights (I have 25kg on each of mine.. pretty heavy, I suggest starting at something like 15kg)

2) Use weights every 2 days.. this will build ur shoulders and arms, thereby tightening the muscle groups around your chest area too (no flabby man-breasts )

3) Do sit-ups and pressups (if ur arms aren't too worn out from the weights.. sometimes they are!)

That's it... I'm pretty well toned and that's all I do, takes up about 40 minutes of my day (if that!) and it's totally worth it.
Occasionally I go to the gym too now that I'm at university (used to at secondary school too though), because I can literally see the gym from my room , so there's no excuse not to go.

Although I'll admit my aerobic stuff sucks, I can't run worth anything , but at least I've stayed slim and toned. I don't diet or anything like that... forcing urself not to eat certain things is a bad idea.. best to just burn em off afterwards.
My aerobic stuff sucks because, to put it bluntly, telling urself "I'll go running 3 times a week", or "I'm gonna bike my way to university every day".. just doesn't work, because it FEELS like so much hassle. Doing weights, situps and pressups is something you can do in ur own room, while watching some anime music video's (that's what I do )... that way ur working out, and doing something you like (in my case anyway)

So yeah, situps, pressups, and one-handed weights.. that's it. It really doesn't take up much time, and it's TOTALLY worth it. Otherwise u end up either the fat lazy computer-geek stereotype, or the thin, pale coder stereotype ;P

I'm a nice in-the-middle, which is where I'll stay

[EDIT]
NOTE: I should point out, however, that this MIGHT only work for me because I have one of those metabolisms where I can't get fat. I basically eat burgers, sausages, bacon, cheese, in various types of bread, and I don't gain any weight. I ate a 400g bar of galaxy chocolate yesterday for example... it wont have any effect on me.
The reason I do weights is to avoid being the thin-pale coder stereotype (instead I'm the semi-buff, not-coder stereotype :D).
However, I maintain that running and things like that are too hard to get into routine for, because they feel like so much work (unless you go with friends! (at the beginning of the semester me and my flatmates used to go running all the time, now we dont because the girls gave up )).
Try buying a few one-hand weights, and even if you have a metabolism where you CAN gain weight, you should still be better off than if you just sit around

Hey I''m 14 and I don''t go out of my house until I''m going back to school the next day. School is hell for me, especially Physical Education. I''m on the computer for at least 12 hours a day. And I really don''t get much sleep. I really don''t hang with friends anymore. Anyways, just wanted to speak my mind!

I didn''t have the weights but I''ve tried sit-ups and push ups in my room but I can''t even seem to stick with that. I will try again because I can''t just give up. I think next semester might go a little better because my ex is coming to the same college as me and she asked me if I would work out with her and since I want to anyway it should be easier to stick with it. Unless things go sour between us I guess. I went snowboarding today so that''s not bad exercise wise. Back in high school the way it was every day would hit the weights a little before and after gym class and that worked really good plus I rode my bicycle a lot. I know what I have to do I just can''t seem to get into the old routine.

since i was about 10 i started gaining weight, that was before i got into computers, since then ive gained more, but now that im nearing the end of highschool its become a high priority for me to get into shape, ive recently been doing a lot of pushups and sit ups, during the summer i went jogging, but i cant do it in the winter(lungs freeze) me and some friends are going snowboarding sometime after christmas, that should be fun and a good workout this summer i also plan to get back to mountain biking, ahh great memories are made on mountain bikes, anyway, ive been getting back into shape

wicked post...

Well..heres my £2's worth...

for ( ;; )
{
I do around 4hours training a week, 3 hours tae-kwon-do (2x1.5 hour sessions) tues and thurs, and 1hour circuit training on wed.
Generally when I get in from work around 3.30pm I program till I go out.
Then I go out friday nights, and caine the programming on saturday (if hangover allows) and sunday.
}

If you dont like excercise, try sticking to something simple, like start off with doing 15 good push-ups a day for a couple of days then increase the amount. Anything is better than nothing.

Boy after reading this thread, I felt so guilty for not working out for almost 2 months now that I immediatly went to the gym and ran 3 miles on the tread mill. 8-} It sure did make me feel better about myself.
