Hello, I am making a lights out clone and I'm wondering if anyone is interested in helping me out. I think this would probably be a fun little project for any bored artist out there that might have an hour to kill. I just need a background sort of like a frame to hold all the lights. I setup a template photoshop file that you can use so that the dimentions are right. You don't have to use photoshop to make it it might even look cooler if it were made in a 3d package thats up to you It's important though, that the file be the exact Width/Height with the places for the lights in their exact places. Here is the link to the template clikme! Thanks in advance for anyone willing to help. [edited by - jakerrz on December 11, 2002 4:18:55 AM]

what kind of metallic / plastic background are you looking for? I have never played this game so I don''t know, but do you just want a reflective surface, rust, car paint, solid colored plastic, or what?
Actually those were just some random ideas... It's really up to the artist what they think looks kool with the buttons i've made so far... The thing is I'm not much of an artist myself so it's hard to invision what i want it too look like, and even harder to explain. If you download the zip file I posted you can see what the lights look like then maybe take it from there to make a cool background... sorry if im being vague about what I want but I'd really be happy with anything that looks somewhat decent.
thanks for your interest

oh and it's ok if you've never played the game i want it to look original. The actual game is a handheld electronic game with rubber buttons that light up (by tiger) if your interested in checking out what the original game looks like, check out this lights out info .
And here is my game so far. the buttons and basic mechanics work but the levels and stuff aren't implemented yet. The Stupid Message box in the begining, the purple cursor, and hopefully the frame around the lights are all temporary

Ok, version 1 is finished. I would post it, but alas, I have no webspace. Oh well, it''s at your e-mail account now.
Thanks a bunch Swacky
I took a look at both the files you sent me and i think I''m gonna go with the first one. Cuz i think it looks more realistic like Here''s the game again for you to check out how your art turned out in-game. I think it looks much better than before, how about you?
Thanks again for your help

That''s pretty cool. I like your game (although I haven''t beaten it yet:-(). It just seems that there''s something missing from the background. What do you think?
yeah i agree there is alot of space below the lights where something could go. maybe a logo or a couple of buttons to reset the current level or something.

a hint on beating the default lvl.
press all the lights that start out touching the left or right sides. takes a total of six moves
I beat it twice, but it didn''t tell me that I won. You may want to fix that lol. Man, that game is addictive. I really like it.

I would put a logo at the bottom of the metal thingy. Then I would put buttons for Reset and Exit. Maybe when you beat it, it would display a high scores list. That''s pretty simple to do in VB, but I don''t know enough C/C++ to do it.

As for security, you could just name the file that saves high scores with a .dat extension. That would probably keep 50% of your users from figuring out how to manipulate it. If you add an empty file in your game''s directory and check the modified dates on both of them before you load the high scores into the game, it would probably keep 80% of the users from figuring it out.
I know it doesn''t say you won yet cuz i haven''t implemented the level system. once i do when you beat a level the lights will do some kind of "you won" animation then it will load the next level. I plan to add 100 levels or so I''m glad you like it when i get more done on it I''ll send you a copy.
take care
