Hi people, i just want to know how i can change the speed of my network card from 100mbps to 10mbps in the newest suse linux distribution (i think 7.1) thanx in advance

If it''s because the rest of the network is 10Mbps, the network card auto-detects that, and I''m not sure the OS has any way of affecting this...

Well...my connection only works if i change my card to 10mbps...it could be becaus of the cable which is aprox. 20m long...because if i connect my comp directly (1m cable) to the other computer it works well with 100mbps

use a 10base cable (the 2 pair(4wire)) one.... if you don''t got one then you can probably get a used one from someone (dime a dozen)... or you could make one out of a 100base cable... follow the diagram for a 10base and ignore the extra pairs

You could also set module parameters according to what you need. But it depends on the specific drivers what parameters you need to set, and often the output of modinfo isn''t very useful, so the source is your friend.

I agree with using the module options. Generally should be able to track down the correct options in online (web) documentation. lsmod + google should do the trick.

I''ve heard some complaints of older switches or other misc. hardware not being very happy if there''s a card trying to autodetect for speed on the network. Also have seen some gigabit cards get just plain flakey in some environments unless you force their speed.
