Does any company design games on Linux?
Hello, everybody.I''m a Chinese.im a newbie on game design now.My English is not very good.I wonder is there any company design games on Linux(RedHat,SuSe,Debian) or on BSD(FreeBSD,OpenBSD,NetBSD)?
Thank you very much.
Hey, I''m Chinese too
But my English is better than my Chinese, so that probably makes me a banana man, but hey.
Anyway, I think the only company that did commercial games on Linux was Loki, but they''ve gone bankrupt now. So, no, I don''t think that there are companies that write games solely for Linux.

If you''re looking for ports, then there are a few companies out there:
- Tux Games (http://www.tuxgames.com),
- Hyperion Entertainment (http://www.hyperion-entertainment.com),
- Linux Game Publishing (http://www.linuxgamepublishing.com),
- Icculus (http://www.icculus.org) also hosts some ports (alien vs predator among others).
I believe that Linux Game Publishing also publishes independent games.
Eon Games (http://eongames.com) develops games for the desktop and PDA. I think they also publish (or port?) independent games.
I don''t know of any commercial entity developing original games solely for GNU/Linux and/or *BSD. There are however a few companies out there building games for multiple platforms, including the aforementioned *nix-like systems:
- Id software,
- Epic,
- Bioware,
- Nevrax (http://www.nevrax.com).
Nevrax developed a free (as in free speech) framework that you can find at http://www.nevrax.org. They''re using it to build their first MMORPG (Ryzom, http://www.ryzom.com). Sadly, the beta required a Windows system the last time I checked, so I guess that the GNU/Linux version won''t be supported (if it is even released).
Hope this helps.

Actually, Loki didn''t do originals, they just ported windows games to Linux. They were subcontractors for game companies like ID and some others...
