TOTWGPG
Has anyone here read Tricks of the Windows Game Programming Gurus by Andre Lamothe?
I''ve been reading it and it seems pretty good to me. I just wondered what other people thought about it.
"Born of a Broken Man, but not a broken man."
------------------------------"If a job's worth doing it's worth getting someone else to do it for you....."
I''ve read it (it was my first intro to real game programming!
) I liked it a lot and I think a whole lot of other people here have read and liked it as well!

I thought that may be the case...
I''ve only read up to the Advanced Windows programming bit, but already i like it. It''s so easy to read! All the programming books I''ve seen are boring and it''s hard to keep reading them, but TOTWGPG is much better.

It''s the book I''d recommend to anyone starting off in game programming (once they know C/C++, that is). It''s not perfect (there are a few errors in there, though nothing major), but it''s easy to understand and will give you a great foundation to build on.

Hrm...that book sounds interesting. How much is it? Also, I have another question. I am currently a junior in High School...I''ve taught myself basic C/C++, and I''m currently learning the Win32 API...my plan is to write Pong and maybe a couple more simple games before moving on to DirectX. Does this sound like a good plan (also, I just signed up for Programming 2 in my high school next year...which might become AP Programming)? Or should I just learn DirectX now? BTW, I''m planning on getting a job somewhere (preferably programming) in the game industry.

You can of course read many reviews of teh book at amazon.com. My opinion is that it is the best game programming book out there right now, but that could have been a lot better. You could always wait for Advanced Game Programming with DirectX 7 which will probably be much better, although mabye more advanced.
