ok this is my first game ok so bear in mind that it may seem like a silly question to many of you all but we''ve all gotta start somewhere! For the front end of a game what image format is best for graphics and also, are seperate images needed for buttons etc...? thanks
use CDX, its a directX wrapper, it makes the using of DX much easier.

i can''t really say if there is a best format, it really depends on what you need, bmp''s are used the most. For buttons you will have to create your own graphics or use the standard GDI buttons(the buttons that appear on dialog boxes, and in standard windows apps). Almost all the graphics you will have to create yourself, unless you want to use the GDI stuff.
how do i create cdx graphics?

with .bmp all i need is a graphics program so surely that is easier?
CDX is not a graphic format, but a library that would make it easier for you to load the graphics
You will probably end up using bmp files, unless you find something to load others. But bmp should be fine as long as you don''t REALLY need compression.
