SAMS Teach Yourself Visual C++ in 21 days:
Does this book teach you by using MFC?
To me, it looks so. I have read the first 2 days, and they use MFC.
So by teaching you through MFC does that make it a bad book?
Can I use that code without it being and MFC app?

You made the same mistake I did 
There are two books. Teach Yourself Visual C++, and Teach Yourself C++.
The first teaches you how to use MSVC and MFC, with some C++ thrown in there somewhere. The second teaches you C++.

heh, I downloaded MSC++ in 21 Days when i was a COMPLETE newbie and didn''t have a frucken clue what they were talking about! I made that mistake too!
