An Old Newbie
I have played with some programming languages such as perl, c++, etc but have never completed even one program with them and now I want to make games (first simple 2d games, but later more) and though I''ve read the articles on this site i just wanted to ask once more, what language/s should i start with. I''ve heard much on c++ but have also heard that python is good, maybe pascal or basic. I''m not too good at math (because I didn''t pay attention in high school) so i need something that will allow me to focus on the math of programming instead of getting cluttered with confusing syntax. also i''ve heard of a language called euphoria, not sure if it''s any good though.
thanks
assembly all the way!!!
Okay now I''ve said that forget it, it would probably be a really stupid idea.
Now for a serious answer....
You''ll find that everyone who answer''s this thread will give you a different answer. My advice would be to go and read a bit about all the languages that interest you and find out their pros/cons then if you can''t find one which in you mind has more pros
that the rest then pick one that you think you would like to learn.
I personally would say C/C++ but thats just my oppinion/preference and any minute now someone will dissagree with me.
Good luck with what ever you choose.

Just start with C++. You''ll probably start with writing some console applications first to get a grasp of the language, then when you''re comfortable, you can move into Win32. After that youcan get into 2d graphics. Seems a bit steep, but it''s necessary. Please, don''t assume that 2D games are simple, they seem easy, but tend to get quite complicated if you want to make something nifty.
