Am I on the right track?

Hi. I''m at my junior year in college and I started out with the career goal of making video games. I used Microsoft as a template(they only hire people with degrees in Computer Science), so I started out with as a CS Major. However, I couldn''t fight my urge to get into Math more, so I am double majoring in Mathematics as well(while looking at graduate school as a possibility). Here is my dillema: I''m not sure what part of game making I want to get into.. the creative side or the technical side. I figured following the Technical side would be better, since only the most talented artists make it into the industry. I''m somewhat of an artist, but not nearly as talented - but design is part of my passion. Level design, concept art, story writing, and programming.. I want to do all of that. My original intention was to keep the art side as a hobby, but now I''m unsure whether I need a credential in that area or not. I figured perhaps I can go back to school after I get my BA in Math and BS in CS, and work on a BS in Computer Graphics somewhere else(they don''t have it where I am at), and that is if I decide not to pursue graduate school in Math. I have a minor in Japanese and I was an exchange student, but I don''t think that will help me. Basically all I''m asking is - do I need some sort of degree in Computer Graphics or art in general? I don''t know Maya or 3D Studio Max, and that really frustrates me since I have found that it is essential for games. I really don''t have time to learn it now with my homework/studying and all(I have to stay above a 3.5GPA to keep my scholarship). Plus I try to take some summer courses to learn as much as I can with my time in college, so learning Maya or 3DS Max during that time is not likely. I''m just afraid all the time I invested into getting the grades is all for nothing. -Toti Mannino

Just so you know, that is not true. They hire people from many different backgrounds.

Ah. I spoke to someone who works with them and they say differently.

Guess it depends on what you are doing for them.
