permission
you''ve probably heard something like this alot of times, but i still want to know something...say there are two companies, X and Y, and both want to make a remake of a particular game (let''s say the TMNT). company X askes permission to do a remake and they get it. now, does this mean that Y can no longer do their version? or is it possible for two different companies to make a remake of the same game? just curious. Thanks in advance.
I''m not exactly sure if I''m right, but i have seen remakes of a certain game done by two companies before so it could be possible.

I don''t think company X would like it if company Y was working on the same thing at the same time... I think it''s possible, but I doubt it would be done simultaneously.
The company owning the original rights will decide if it''s possible. It''s perfectly possible for company X to negotiate exclusive rights for making such a game - both parts would be bound by this contract, so company Y would not be able to get permission.
Thanks for your responses! so it is possible for two companies to remake the same game, as long as the company owning the original rights gives permission for them to do it. but then, let''s say company Y doesn''t have permission. can they make the game anyway, but with a different title and slightly modified then the original? again, thanks in advance!

I believe as long as you have permission to do your remake it doesn''t matter if some else has the same permission.
