Air golf...good idea or not?
SO I had a thought for a golf type game...its called air golf, u have a rubber band as your club and you fire the ball up into the air (its a 2d sprite based game) and aim for a goal, the ball is affected by your general 2d physics equations of collisions with bricks and gravity. Your aim is to hit a goal in the minimum number of strokes possible... each time u fire its a stroke of course, there are hazards on the course such as fans that blow ur ball of course and magenets of sorts that attract the ball to it. plus there are bricks that ur ball bounce off of.
Does this game sound fun at all? Because I ran into a problem...while making the game (the reason why i am asking is of my game projects im furthest along on this one) i realized that its not that fun, sorta nifty ya but not addictive fun as i was striving for. So my question is, Is there any ideas someone might have to make the game more fun? Perhaps different thickness of rubberbands selection for different height possiblities? (sorta like ur various clubs in real golf).
See i dunno, the shame with "differnt" game ideas is you dont know how fun they are till you try them. Its not like i was trying for this game to be a number seller, it was mostly a learning experience and such... but id like to FINISH a game that is somewhat fun...so here i am, asking anyone if they have any ideas at all, it sucks being the only one on a dev team of 1
Thanks for any ideas at all..
I hope i paintedn at least an okay picture of what the game is...

well u got a different view on the game of golf.. why not apply the same sort of wacky concepts to traps and hazards.

Well, I''ve always thought that there are only two reasons we don''t see mini-golf type structures on regular golf courses:
1. It doesn''t look mature and sophisticated.
2. It''s too expensive.
#2 is easily solved with the computer
I think a golf game that makes full use of the computer''s abilities - including a "sky golf" course like the one you describe - would be a very successful one, even if it resembles the original game only by gameplay rules.

Thansk for the respones, I guess I just am getting disheartned idea wise. I had a great idea for the game, but technical challenges stopped me (this was long ago) then I finally got past those but had forgotten my great ideas...somewhat disheartening. I guess im looking for motivation to start again, it sucks when people have that urge to create but never get anywhere created Although I have finished two games...LOL id like to finish a third...
Thanks for any more ideas on the subject,
