DX8.1b SDK Debug Problems

Is there a way to use the DX Libs in my C++ Programming without having the full SDK installed? When I installed the 8.1b SDK, it''s caused problems in other unrelated programs, ranging from Debug messages to all out crashes. If I install the SDK Retail version instead of the SDK Debug version will that help? Or can I uninstall the SDK and just use the lib files? Thanks! ~~~~~~~~~~~ Chris Vogel ~~~~~~~~~~~

Download the latest drivers for your graphics/sound card. also get the latest patches for your games. This should solve the problem you are experiancing

Actually I have all the latest drivers, updated them all a few days ago.

But when I installed the Debug SDK for DX8.1b, programs are giving me debug windows and generally not working correctly. For example, RealPlayer shows a timer running in the middle of the movie screen while playing a movie, and when I close Realplayer it pops up a KillTimer() Assert error and asks if I want to debug it.

Is there a way to use the DX8.1 libs in your programming without installing all the debug stuff that can conflict with other programs?

I don''t know if you can use the lib''s with out installing the sdk. If you want to not get the debug screens and the timer running when the video is playing, get the retail version instead of the debug version. It tells you when you go 2 install that if do not want debug pop ups and debug screens 2 get the retail version. I had the same probelm with 8.1a sdk. So I went with just the retail and the debug screens went away. And on the other topic of 8.1b causing crashes, you should enver get an update of any type from microsoft until 3-6 months after the initial release, since bugs and other bad things are common in most updates from microsoft...I learned that the hard way. If you don''t really need 8.1b, then stick with 8.1a, until they fix it, which will most likely be in the form of 8.1c.
