Why do you want to make games

Now why would I create games... to get girls of course! hmm... but after reading the ''do nerds get girls?'' thread I think I might be climbing the wrong ladder. Maybe I should go produce porn or study to become a gynecologist or something...

I want to make games ''cause I''m a bit of a storyteller at heart. I like stories, like telling them, and feel that an interactive medium is the best way to tell them. Which leaves either pen-and-paper rollplaying, or video games. Video games have the benefit of being able to reach a lot more people

I''d have to say that I like making games b/c of that great feeling you get when your game finally works and you can say (even if its a sucky tetris clone) "Hey guys, check out what I did! Aren''t I the greatest?" hehe (well, I don''t say that last part out loud anyway

Check out the GPI project today!
I recently posted up a game on GD Showcase (TETRIS) which I thought was pretty average & Lame. It was the first game I''ve written in VC++, and probably the first game I''ve ever finished.

Anyhow: In the GD Showcase they said it was "pretty cool", and I was well pleased, so I''m in the process of writing another game to post up, only this time a bit more original.

So I guess I program so I can show off to my mates!

I''m doing it because I love games, I would enjoy it as a career. But I also want fame, perhaps gamedev isn''t the way for it.
I love game programming becuse there is no strict rule how to do it. You can solve problems in many diffrent ways. Then of corse it´s fun bequse not som many people do it.

"not som many people do it" - Naw, I wouldn''t agree to that. I think that there are about 2000 professional games released every year and increasing fast. If you count the hobby/amature game programmers, you''ve got yourself quite a number.
But, of course, compared to software development in general, game development prolly don''t count as big.

Game Development is just how I express myself. I do it for the same reason people write books, make music, paint, and make movies and TV shows. I have many, many ideas on how I think games shall be made, and I am out to accomplish that. Needless to say, I am a hardcore gamer. I also enjoy programming, and developing games because there is not just one way to do it. You can do it in an infinitely number of ways. That''s why I''m into game development.

Creating your own little worlds is fun. I hate designing games or doing graphics, but sitting in front of some source-code for many hours, playing around, getting things to work, just rocks. My friends say I''m sick, but that''s life.

If you program games to get girls, then you''re obviously very pathetic! If you want a girl, go woe her with your personality- not your mathematical and typing skills!
I like to program games because I love games! I played my first game when I was 2, and since then have continued to love being a gamer. All along the way while playing games I always though, yah, that game was cool but it would''ve been way better if they did ''this!''. So, basically, it''s because I think I could make some seriously awesome games! I enjoy programming, enjoy games (both playing and programming) but probably the biggest reason is the satisfaction of creating my own game.
