Hmmm... Actually, this sounds like a neat idea ^_^

Though I think you should also include the highways / interstates... It''s always fun to race away from the cops, race into a new town, ditch your car, and get a new one and drive straight past them
I don''t like the idea of driving through the "country". Barren, open roads are not something I''m fond of in video games (boring..)

From your original description, it sounds pretty "hickish". A southern rebel in a stolen, 70''s car, with a red-headed prostitute.. it reminds me of that movie with Natalie Portman, where she gives birth in WalMart. Can''t remember the name.

I''d keep it more urban or citylike. What would be very cool is if the game involved high speed chases across state highways and such, or the warping, multi-leveled highway circuits of Los Angeles. Picture bursting through a barricade and flying down 30 feet to one of the overpasses below. Could be cool.

Well if your after high speed chases in cities and the such check out Police Justice http://www.codefortress.com/pages/PoliceJustice1.html its a mix of cops the show and GTA 3.

you might add a few options other than just driving...

one of my friends had the idea for a game that basically involved causing as much havoc in a city as possible before you got caught. you might add some things where you can watch the news at certain times and see updates on the police positions

you could create cities as you get into them - randomly, that is, and then maybe even save the cities so you can go back. of course, there are limits of how much you can do. but i would try to make the cities as open to you as possible.

anyways, im going to keep this short, but i would definitely buy this game. it sounds cool. i would suggest you play driver for a while, too. the driving works pretty well in that game - but the police need better AI.

speaking of which, i would suggest as real of AI for the cops as you can get. eg, if you kill a cop, the others REALLY want to kill you, not just stop you. or if you kill pedestrians, they just run like hell or freeze.

anyways, good luck - post something on the site if you finish it!!

I hate road movies.
Yeah, hope you don''t mind the response from a newbie. Anyway, you''re idea is a good one, although there are a few things you could add. First, making it a car game/on the run game doesn''t please me too well. Perhaps adding in some things like being able to cause riots in cities, or just running around the city/area without a car and being able to magically pull out a bazooka from your back pocket. While the game''s main theme could be to cause carnage and get away from the cops by car, I think having the freedom of bending the basic idea a little bit in the game could be a thing that would give it a lot of reply value. As in GTA, you were free to do whatever you wanted as well for the most part.

As for the highway/interstate scenes, I''d say you keep them in for the most part, although for the sake of the game, you may not want to stick to realism, and only cause these things to go on for a minute or so. Sure you cannot cover a whole 70 miles in two minutes, but if you really stick to being realistic, the game can get boring. I think the interstate could hold some other things as well. While it is to get from one city to the other, it''s also where you''re the most vulnerable to the law enforcement. Imagine trying to shake a pack of state trooper cars behind you by going 100 mph or beyond with helicoptors trying to shoot at your car from above. Then you look ahead, and you see a road block of FBI cars blocking your way.

Also, who wouldn''t want to try to lose the FBI by driving through a corn field?

My only other idea would be to have a sort of wanted meter that works a bit differently then what most game have, in which it''s more gradual. For example, upon killing the man or making your first crime you may be merrited with one or two police cars being in pursuit of you. As you cause more chaos, you may get more police cars, and perhaps the state trooper would be on you soon enough, followed by the FBI and I guess the Army would be last. Upon getting out of the city and onto the interstate, the police would back off obviously, being out of their limits and all.

Anyway, those are my sort of add on to it. My only questions are why does the guy want to get to the other side of the country? Unless he''s going to go to Mexico or something to avoid law authority could I see a purpose. Also, he has to have a reason to commit this first crime as well. I understand that such things should probably be in the story forum, but I have to see the purpose of this guy doing what he does in order be wanting to get there.

"Where the Heart Is"

I think this idea is overall pretty nice. One thing I find lacking in GTA3 is character attachment. The guy never says a single word, and kills people callously (through the player of course). I also think that a lot of us wonder to ourselves just how far we could get if we ever turned criminal. I''d like to play that out in a game.

One off-topic question: Does ''The Guy'' in GTA3 kill Maria in the end? I know there''s a gunshot and she stops blabbing, but does that necessarily mean that she''s dead?

Ok, i''ve been thinking of ideas and drawing up concepts for customised cars and stuff, and we decided that this should be a Twisted Metal style game, only not as "arena" -ish.

to explain, the highway/interstate scenes would be used for loading screens. so while it''s loading it''ll play a looping video of the player driving their car on the highway. then we''ll hear "news reports" and stuff. if the player hasn''t done anything criminal yet, like as in if they just did boring stuff, it''d play sh*tty country music. sorta like a punishment for not f*cking things up. if they wreaked havoc in the last town, then the news reports would come on, reporting stories like arson and stuff. it''ll be interactive, or dynamic. for example, different buildings will be classified, and then the number of buildings destroyed/burnt down will also be reported, along with many other things. like you''ll hear "today, a staggering 27 counts of arson were reported, resulting in the tragic deaths of 86 people. These buildings include Beverly City Elementary School, the White Supremecist Church of Gangbuck, and a Hell gas station. Police are searching for a man/woman in a *color of player''s car* *model*, with the license plate 1234567." also, if any "famous" people are killed, that''ll be reported as well. so the player can do things like work as an assasin, killing politicians or something, or they could smuggle things over borders, or they could just become a roving maniac and kill as many people as possible. since there will only be about 7 towns/cities, i think it''ll be possible to have an almost persistent online game, where people could join up with other people, and form clans or somehting.

*cool ideas for customised cars*

Medusa: A trailer truck, one of those big rigs, with an 8-gun AA turret on the back, and a .50 caliber machinegun mounted on the roof. players pick up passengers or recruit gang members/criminals/psychos to man the guns

Savant: a yellow schoolbus filled with machinegun toting maniacs and maybe children held hostage.

Amputator: a hijacked ambulance mounted with some sort of big gun. concept drawings look cool, heh.

a few others, i havent named them and i''m not too sure i like the design, as they look too similar to Vigilante8/Twisted Metal/etc.

oooh! and i just saw SE7EN, Fight Club, Con Air, and Snatch. i know, a lot of them had Brad Pitt in it. it seems like he''s in a bunch of good movies. i guess he''s a good actor. i kinda like the gritty feel of Fight Club and SE7EN, and the chaotic and psychotic sense in Con Air and Snatch. i think these are pretty good movies to base the game off, don''t you?

I had an idea just now: why not make a bunch of other raving lunatics in pursuit of Vehicular Homicide Nirvana? so you could choose to be an undercover cop or something and arrest/kill off as many of the others as possible, while tracking them down? yeah? yeah?
...this is a recording.
Don''t Develop this idea any furthur till you have beaten Mafia (new PC game) and taken notes. While similar to GTA3 it is extremely realistic (blowing out of tires, road blocks have strips of nails, Police are actually REALLY hard to ditch, and a great story.) I like your concept but you really have to play mafia and take a crap load of notes before you can really fully develop this.
Mafia RoX!!!

Well, I actually haven''t played it yet, cause there''s no demo, and I don''t buy games too often.

But its getting good reviews.

You wouldn''t want to spend too much time working on a "me too" game design, but some of your ideas are original, so if you could find ways to differentiate it from the competition...
