This is really bugging me, but there''s only two paragraphs on 3d clipping and no examples.

Clipping? That''s done automatically, obviously or else things would be drawn all over the screen.
If you mean culling (frustum culling, visibility culling) then that''s more of a math subject, hence why it is not in the book. www.gametutorials.com has good frustum culling tutorials with quadtrees as well.
