I need some help deciding which language...
hey,
I have started trying to learn C++ but its the first real programming i have done (apart from HTML) and i am finding it really hard to pick up at the moment. I was thinking of learning an easier language first, but i''m not sure which one.
Do you have any suggestions please?
thanks
Make a move for QBasic! It is really simple! Once you learn it to the roots, C++ shouldn''t be that hard to pick up. Email me at: wikedgamer@hotmail.com if you want more information about QBasic (which i''m currently programming in!).
I have to second the QBasic thought, actually. If you can''t grasp C++, QBasic is a real good place to start, and at least get the feel of programming. Just don''t get carried away. I''ve only seen one program in QBasic that was shaping up to anything, and it''s... apparently sunken into oblivion. Didn''t have a name, he just called it The Game... I think the creator was Tsugumo...? It was quite a long while ago the site went down, but maybe some of you remember it. Anyway, my point is that for what you''re probably planning to do, QBasic is nowhere near sufficient. What it is, however, is a good stepping stone into the world of programming. And masterconjuror, do you have a website? I''d like to take a look at what QBasic can do again, now that I''ve forgotten how to do anything more than draw lines on the screen.

Well thanks for the help guys. I sent you an e-mail masterconjurer so if you could get me some info about Qbasic that would be great My e-mail if you need it is alex_number4@hotmail.com
thanks

Try learning C. Its not a cakewalk but easier than C++. C++ has a philosophy of its own so you have to learn syntax and the extra abstraction. C is simpler and POWERFUL.
The sky is the limit !
How long did you spend trying to learn c++? Spend atleast 2 weeks trying and if doesn''t workout then do whatever. But all in all a programming language is just a tool to manipulate data. Tell us what your having trouble with, functions, data types?
quote: From the Jargon File
"It is practically impossible to teach good programming style to students that have had prior exposure to BASIC: as potential programmers they are mentally mutilated beyond hope of regeneration."
(Probably a slight exageration, but in essence true)
Please, persevere with C, even if it takes a while before your output is any more advanced than a text console. Just stick at it.
Arek the Absolute, I don''t have a personal QBasic website but you check out http://www.qbasic.com
It has been abandoned for quite some time but it has great stuff on it.
