An Asplosion! of a Re-Release

On Sunday, I linked to the source/executable for my top-down, arena space shooter Asplode! and one of the things I wasn't really proud of was how terrible the performance was for the game. Well, one of my friends took the burden of fixing it up a bit and made an installer. He then passed all of this new fangled technology onto me and, in return, I edited a couple more of the source files, added him to the game's credits, and made a new, updated installer for the game. So here, ladies and gentlemen, is a far more proper release of the game.

This installer will execute the DirectX Web Setup, install the .NET 2.0 Framework if it isn't already, and the XNA redistributable, but it does not contain the source for the game. Like any XNA game, this will require Windows XP or Vista, and, at the very least, a graphics card capable of Pixel Shader 2.0.

Asplode! v1.1

[Edit]: I failed part of the installer, so the XNA redistributable will also need to be installed.

I've tried to run your game but it crashes as soon as I open it (before I get to see anything). I get the usual (translated from french) :

"Asplode! encountered a problem and must be closed. Please excuse us for the blablabla."

I've verified that I've installed :
- Micsosoft .NET Framework 3.5
- Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 2.0
- Microsoft XNA Game Studio 2.0
- Microsoft DirectX SDK (November 2007)

Here's my laptop's specs :
Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8GHz
Microsoft Windows XP Professionnal SP2 (French)
2GB of RAM
nVidia GeForce 8600m GT

On a side note, why not add a few screenshots in your journal entry?

Ran fine for me after I installed the XNA Framework Redistributable. The performance is good, too, unless I turn up the resolution. It's pretty fun - I got to a "You beat me" score. I'm not a fan of the controls, at least not for a keyboard. Aiming with arrow keys is difficult at best.

That is remarkably bizarre. I can't really explain the crash. Other than performance issues, when I put the game up for the first time it was incredibly stable. I'm really quite confused. You say it was being translated from French, does that mean you're running Windows using an alternate language pack?

And, believe me, I've plastered my journal full of screenshots. I didn't think to post more here (since the meat of the release post was in the one made two days earlier).

Yeah. The keyboard controls are kind of terrible. This was primarily designed for the 360 controller. Which is kind of silly since it's a PC-only release. At least, for now.
